°hf Silver Back: An uncompromising spray deck for experts and extreme whitewater
°hf Silver Back: Reliability Comes First
The Silver Back model embodies the best that the legendary °hf brand has to offer. This spraydeck was developed for paddlers who push the limits of their abilities and need gear that can withstand immense water pressure without the risk of implosion (the deck bursting open into the boat). It offers greater safety, more comfort, and the best possible seal for the most extreme expeditions.
X-Tuck neoprene, aramid, and Phatlip (DryLip) trim
The durability and waterproofness of this spray deck are ensured by a sophisticated layering of materials:
- Deck made of 4mm X-Tuck neoprene: This extremely high-performance material with a pre-stressed 3D design ensures a perfect fit over the cockpit.
- Aramid reinforcements (Kevlar): The sides and the most heavily stressed edges of the deck are protected by aramid panels against rough abrasion from rocks and the paddle.
- Extra-wide latex reinforcement: The inner edge of the blanket is coated with a thick layer of latex for maximum adhesion to the boat's cockpit.
- Phatlip (DryLip) lip liner: The specially shaped edge of the spray skirt maximizes waterproofing and acts as a perfect seal over the edge of the collar.
- 100% waterproof seams: All joints are carefully glued and welded.
Safety Features and Details for Professionals
Every detail is designed to address the specific challenges of extreme paddling:
- Knee strap with a cam buckle: A strap for a quick emergency exit, routed from the inside over the knees, allows you to pull off the spray deck with your feet in situations where you cannot use your hands.
- Sturdy 9.5 mm rubber edge: A reliable and secure way to attach a blanket to all polyethylene (PE) kayaks.
- Clip on the release handle: A brilliant detail—the central handle is equipped with a clip that allows you to attach the blanket to your life jacket when navigating obstacles. This way, the blanket doesn't get in the way as you walk.
- Double-sided reflective logo: The logo is also printed on the inside of the blanket, so you're highly visible even when you're walking with the rain blanket draped over your vest.
What is the ideal use for a spray deck?
The °hf Silver Back spray deck makes no compromises and is designed for:
- Extreme whitewater (WW V–WW VI) and creeking: It can withstand the fiercest storms and keep the ship dry even under the immense pressure of the water.
- Waterfalls and challenging drops: Shock absorption and a perfect seal that won't give way even during a hard impact against a rock.
- Tours and Professional Guides: Uncompromising durability and safety.

Expert Advice and Product Care: The combination of 9.5mm rubber, a Phatlip hem, and extra-wide latex makes this spraydeck an impenetrable fortress, but putting it on the cockpit for the first time requires some technique and a knack. Be sure to wet the edge of the boat and the spraydeck collar so the material slides into place more easily. When navigating difficult sections, you’ll appreciate the clip for attaching the spray deck to your life jacket—this prevents unnecessary strain on the neoprene neck seal, keeps the deck from getting tangled under your feet, and ensures you’re perfectly visible in the canyon thanks to the reflective logo on the inside. Store the spraydeck only in a dry place and out of direct sunlight.
