CE4Y SICK-LINE 8.7: Ultra-lightweight hyper-static rope for experts

This model is what is known as a hyperstatic rope, which means it has virtually no elasticity (only 1.8 percent elongation under a load of 50 to 150 kg). For this reason, it cannot absorb the energy of a potential fall! Its use requires in-depth knowledge of rope techniques and is strictly recommended only for experienced riders and professionals. The rope has been thoroughly tested in accordance with the EN564 standard.

Extreme durability and water-repellent materials

Despite its small diameter and featherweight, the SICK-LINE model offers fantastic durability. The strong braid makes up 48 percent of the total weight and contains highly durable UHMPE and polyester fibers that bravely withstand abrasion from sharp rock edges. In addition, the lightweight polypropylene core ensures that the rope floats exceptionally well. All the fibers used are water-repellent, so the rope does not absorb water and remains perfectly lightweight even during an all-day traverse through a wet canyon.

Swiss Quality and Rope Shrinkage

The rope is proudly developed and manufactured in Switzerland by a certified personal protective equipment manufacturer. Due to its construction and the properties of the fibers, natural shrinkage occurs during use. Although CE4Y ropes shrink less than most competitors’ products, expect the total length to shorten by up to 8 percent over time. For this reason, we supply each rope 0.5 to 1 meter longer than the stated nominal length (measured with a calibrated digital tool).

Warning Regarding Dry Canyons

Due to the presence of UHMPE fibers in the sheath, the manufacturer does not recommend using this rope in completely dry canyons under dry conditions. However, tests have shown that rappelling up to 50 meters on a dry rope using a standard-sized figure-eight descender (or similar device) will not damage the fibers, as the heat generated by friction does not reach critical levels.

The climber must have absolute confidence in their belay, because the rope provides no shock absorption. As for ordering lengths, we sell rope by the meter (for example, to order 66 meters, add 66 items to your cart). If you need a longer continuous length beyond the standard range, we’ll be happy to provide a roll of up to an impressive 800 meters upon request.
