Dagger Katana Action: A versatile crossover that won't let you down in any situation
Katana: The Perfect Balance Between Whitewater and Calm Waters
The Dagger Katana is designed for paddlers who love variety. Whether you’re heading out on a local river with rapids or planning a multi-day backpacking trip across lakes and reservoirs, the Katana adapts. Two available sizes (9.7 for lighter and medium-weight paddlers and 10.4 for heavier paddlers or large expeditions) ensure there’s something for everyone. It’s a boat that offers tremendous stability and safety for beginners, but even experienced paddlers will be able to fully utilize its potential.
Hull and Hydrodynamics: Planing Bottom and Retractable Skeg
The boat's hydrodynamic profile is optimized for maximum efficiency in all types of water:
- Planing hull: It provides excellent glide, lightning-fast acceleration, and superb maneuverability in rapids. The edges are forgiving; they don’t “catch” the water unexpectedly, and the boat transitions smoothly from edge to edge, which gives the paddler tremendous confidence.
- Retractable skeg (fin): A secret weapon on open water. Once activated using the control cord, the kayak stays perfectly on course, eliminating wobble, and makes paddling across the lake a breeze.
- Balanced rocker: It makes it easier to navigate through waves, glide smoothly over obstacles, and make beautiful, clean runs through the barrel even at lower approach speeds.
Action Trim Level: Comfort, Storage Space, and Reliability
The Action series is designed to be durable yet lightweight, saving weight and increasing reliability in the field:
- Rear waterproof compartment: A spacious storage compartment protected by a sturdy partition and a rubber-sealed lid. Ideal for a sleeping bag, tent, and food supplies on an expedition.
- Contour Seat and Backrest: A comfortable, ergonomically shaped seat that provides good torso support, does not restrict movement, and allows for precise edge control even during long descents.
- Adjustable armrests: Thigh supports, side pads, and an adjustable footrest (bulkhead) allow you to perfectly customize the cockpit to your body for maximum comfort and a secure connection to the boat.
- Safety handrails and bungee nets: Sturdy handles for transport and elastic nets on board for storing a map or jacket when needed.
Recommended activities: From fast-paced downhill runs to multi-day expeditions
The Dagger Katana Action is a versatile tool for a wide range of uses:
- Crossover and Expedition (ZWC–WW III): The perfect combination of a skeg for lakes and maneuverability in rapids. Ideal for multi-day backpacking trips.
- River running: Ideal for fast and confident descents, where you'll appreciate the boat's ability to hold its line and maneuver easily around rocks.
- Classes and Club Activities: A durable and exceptionally stable board for riders who are developing their skills.

It combines a well-thought-out hull design, high-quality materials, and top-of-the-line features that prioritize both the paddler’s safety and comfort. The Katana model is proof that Dagger can combine stability with speed and perfect versatility.
Caring for the Polyethylene Hull and Skeg
The hull is made of high-quality linear polyethylene. To maximize its service life, we recommend storing the kayak away from constant direct UV exposure. After paddling in sandy terrain, rinse the kayak thoroughly. Pay special attention to the retractable skeg housing—rinse it with clean water to prevent the mechanism from jamming. Occasionally treat the underside of the rubber skeg cover with silicone spray.

Expert advice: The Katana is a boat that rewards you for smooth, active paddling. Thanks to its planing hull and clever rocker, you don’t have to struggle with the boat using brute force. But don’t forget to use the skeg properly—on a lake, it’ll save you a lot of energy, and the boat will glide along as if on rails. However, as soon as you enter shallow rapids or approach the shore, always remember to retract it in time! Also take the time to customize the boat to fit you perfectly. Once you’re “at one” with the boat, you’ll appreciate how smoothly it transitions from edge to edge and how well it holds its line. Trust the front of the boat when approaching a drop—the Katana will carry you up reliably and keep your feet dry!
